OVAC BOOSTERS FREE THROW COMPETITION

Tuesday, August 30, 2011

The OVAC Boosters are holding their Third Annual Free Throw Competition.  Letters and registration forms have been mailed to each elementary and middle school principal as well as the school athletic director.  All applications are due back NO LATER THAN OCTOBER 11, 2011.

The rules are as follow:

2011 - 2012 OVAC BOOSTERS
FOUL SHOOTING CONTEST

An Annual Contest To Promote Interest, Excitement,  and Competition

GRADE DIVISIONS:  3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-12
SEX:  There will be a boys’ and a girls’ competition at each level.
WINNER:   The winner will be decided by the student who makes the most foul shots at each level.  In the event of a tie, an overtime period will be held.  Should the tie remain at the end of that period, a sudden death shootoff will be held.  The first student to miss is eliminated.  Both students must shoot that round.
AWARDS:  Winners in each grade division will receive awards as marked at each level of competition.

LEVEL ONE:
Each student must shoot thirty (30) foul shots.  It is recommended that they shoot ten (10) shots at a time, with a break.
Each student must have an official entry sheet filled out, showing their results, and giving their school information.  This must be signed by the school principal before the student can advance to level two.
This competition can be held as part of a gym class, a lunch time competition, before/after school, in the evening, etc.  It is hoped that schools will come up with ways to create a fun atmosphere for the students.
Each school will be responsible for expenses incurred and can keep all monies made.  Revenue can be through admission (recommended not to exceed three dollars [$3.00]), 50-50 raffle, concessions, etc.
Should a school have more than one  elementary or middle school, each school may advance the two highest qualifiers at each level of competition.
This competition must take place at the school’s convenience during the months of September/October.
The Level One Competition must be completed by October 7, 2011, and the entry forms on the desk of the Executive Secretary NO LATER THAN October 11.  Each entry form must be accompanied with a  Ten Dollar ($10.00) fee that will be used toward  the awards.  This is a one-time fee that follows the qualifiers to the championship.  It is hoped that each school will fund this so that the student would not have to pay.

LEVEL TWO - SEMI-FINALS:
All winners of the Level One Competition will advance to one of four (4) Conference schools to be named later.  The sites will be determined in an attempt to give all schools an opportunity to host the event.  Students will again go to the school closest to their home school.
Each student will compete in their respective division, shooting thirty (30) foul shots.  It is recommended that they shoot ten (10) shots at a time, with a break.
The winner of each division will advance to Championship Competition at Buckeye Local High School on November 19.
Should a student be unable to make the Level Two Competition, they will forfeit their right to advance.
All Level Two Competitions will be held on November 5, 2011.
Each host school is permitted to charge admission to pay for their expenses.  It is recommended that this not exceed three dollars ($3.00).  They are also permitted to have concessions and a 50-50 raffle.
Awards will be presented to the winner and runner-up in each division.

LEVEL THREE:  CHAMPIONSHIPS
All winners of the Level Two Competition will advance to Buckeye Local High School where they will compete for the championship.
